Born in Passaic, Amico was a Navy veteran of World War II. After his service, he was invited to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals, and he remained a lifelong baseball fan. He worked at Passaic General Hospital for 12 years.
Amico is survived by his children, Debra Bassani and her husband Vincent, Donna Carpentier and her husband Robert, David Amico and his wife Jay, and Daren Amico; grandchildren Corey, Nicholas, Antonia, Vincent, Travis, Michael, Armand, Joseph, Ryan, Gabrielle and Dylan; and great-grandchildren Peter, Charlie and Matthew.
He was preceded by his wife of 62 years, Santa (Gebbia) Amico; parents Filomena and Manzueto Amico; and brothers Michael and Salvatore Amico.
Visiting will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., in Garfield. The funeral will be from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. mass at St. Philip the Apostle Church, in Clifton. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, in Montclair.
